Pattaya for people who have never trained

Training Muay Thai in Pattaya as a beginner

Close to Bangkok, cheaper than Phuket, and a town that some people will find hard to ignore.

Updated 2026-09-01

The short version

Pattaya has a long-established camp scene, sits a couple of hours from Bangkok by road, and costs less than Phuket. For a beginner the training case is solid; whether the town suits you is the real question.

The camps here have taken foreigners for decades, so the beginner pathway is well worn and English is common. Getting there from Suvarnabhumi is straightforward, which matters more than it sounds when you land jet-lagged.

It is also a genuinely cheap place to live compared with the islands, which extends what a fixed budget buys you.

The town has a specific reputation and it is largely accurate. Some people train around it without noticing; others find it corrodes the discipline they came for.

Where this goes wrong

Be honest with yourself about the nightlife before you book a month. It is the single most common reason a Pattaya trip produces less training than planned.

Pattaya camps we would put in front of people who have never trained

Matched on what we have verified, not on who pays us. Anything we have not confirmed about a camp is marked as such on its page.

Large resort-style training centre attached to the best-known equipment brand in the sport, with on-site accommodation and food. Polished and self-contained, which is either the appeal or the drawback depending on what you came for.
