Before you go
Is it safe to travel alone to a Thai camp?
Updated 2026-09-01
The short answer
Solo trainees are the norm, not the exception, and camps are one of the easiest places in Thailand to arrive alone because the social structure is built in. The genuine risks on a training trip are scooters, overtraining and the sun, in that order.
Arriving alone at a camp is unlike arriving alone anywhere else. You are in a room with the same twenty people twice a day, most of whom also came by themselves, and the introductions happen without anyone trying.
Motorbikes are where trips actually end. Renting a scooter without a licence, without a helmet, or without ever having ridden one is a normal decision to make on the first afternoon and a bad one. Check what your insurance says before you rent, not after.
The other two are self-inflicted. Doing every session in the first week gets people injured, and doing them without drinking enough in that heat gets people ill.
