Is training in Thailand cheaper than at home?

Updated 2026-09-01

The short answer

Per session and per hour of coaching, Thailand is dramatically cheaper than most Western gyms, particularly for pad work with an experienced trainer. Per trip, the flight dominates, so short trips rarely pay for themselves financially and long ones easily do.

The comparison people make at home is a monthly membership against a monthly camp package. That comparison flatters Thailand even before you account for what you get: twice-daily sessions, and one-to-one pad rounds that would be priced as private coaching almost anywhere else.

The comparison that actually decides it is total trip cost divided by weeks. A one week trip carries the whole flight on seven days. A three month stay carries it on ninety, by which point your daily cost of living is often below what you were paying at home to do far less training.

This is why the honest answer changes with trip length rather than with camp choice.

Worth knowing

Cheap coaching is not the same as good coaching, in Thailand or anywhere. Price tells you about cost of living, not about whether the trainer is paying attention.
