Bangkok for people who have never trained

Training Muay Thai in Bangkok as a beginner

Bangkok is the best place in Thailand to watch Muay Thai and one of the harder places to start learning it.

Updated 2026-09-01

The short version

Bangkok gyms are city gyms rather than resort camps: you commute, you rarely stay on site, and the room is more Thai and more serious than an island camp. It is a strong second trip and an ambitious first one.

The upside is that the professional scene actually lives here. Rajadamnern and Lumpinee are in the city, the fighters you train alongside are competing, and the coaching is not shaped around holiday traffic.

The friction is logistical. You are commuting across a large city in heat and traffic to reach a session, which is a real cost in energy that camp accommodation elsewhere removes entirely.

For a beginner who wants the sport rather than the trip, it is a fair trade. For a beginner who wants a straightforward two weeks, it is more work than it needs to be.

Where this goes wrong

Do not judge a Bangkok gym by whether it has a beginners class. Several of the best have no such thing, which is exactly why they are not a good first booking.

Matched on what we have verified, not on who pays us. Anything we have not confirmed about a camp is marked as such on its page.
