Training boxing in Thailand

Western boxing is widely available in Thai camps, and it is not the same as the boxing inside Muay Thai.

The short answer

Most sizeable camps in Thailand run boxing alongside Muay Thai, usually with a dedicated coach and separate pad rounds. It is a strong option for anyone whose hands lag behind their kicks, and for anyone who wants to keep training with a lower-body injury.

The distinction worth understanding is stance and rhythm. Muay Thai is fought from a more upright, squarer stance because of the kicks and the clinch, so its boxing is not the boxing of a pure boxing gym.

That difference is exactly why the sessions are useful. A few weeks of dedicated boxing sharpens combinations and defence in a way that pad rounds inside a Muay Thai class rarely do.

It is also the most accessible option when your legs are injured, which is far more common on a long training trip than people plan for.

Ask this before you book

A boxing session inside a Muay Thai camp is not a substitute for a boxing gym. If competitive boxing is your actual goal, ask who the coach is and what they have cornered.

Camps that run Boxing

Every one of these also runs Muay Thai, which is the usual reason to be here. Where we have not confirmed a timetable or a price, the camp page says so rather than filling the gap.

Tiger Muay Thai

Chalong, Phuket / Large camp

The largest and best-known training complex in Thailand, running Muay Thai alongside a full MMA and BJJ programme. Big enough that you can always find training partners at your level, and structured enough that a total beginner is never left guessing. The trade-off is scale: it feels like a fitness resort rather than a Thai gym, and it is priced accordingly.
