Phuket for competitive fighters

Training Muay Thai in Phuket as a fighter

Phuket can produce a real fight camp, and it can also sell you a fight you should not take.

Updated 2026-09-01

The short version

Phuket has serious fighter-focused camps with hard sparring, strong strength and conditioning, and regular local cards. It also has camps that will put any willing foreigner on a show, which is a different thing and worth telling apart before you commit.

The genuine article looks like a separate fighter session, a coach who tracks your weight and your rounds, and training partners who are also being matched. If the fighter programme is just the normal class with a harder name, you will find that out in week one.

Local cards run frequently on the island, which is why fighting out of Phuket is logistically easy. Easy access to cards is a benefit when the matchmaking is careful and a hazard when it is not.

Ask who from the camp has fought in the last few months, at what weight, and how those fights went. A camp that fights people properly answers that instantly.

Where this goes wrong

Tourist-facing shows on the island will happily match an inexperienced foreigner against someone with far more fights. Being offered a bout is not evidence that you are ready for it.

Phuket camps we would put in front of competitive fighters

Matched on what we have verified, not on who pays us. Anything we have not confirmed about a camp is marked as such on its page.

Sinbi Muay Thai

Rawai, Phuket / Mid-size camp

A long-running Rawai camp that stayed Muay Thai only while neighbours diversified into MMA. Reputation is built on Thai trainer quality and pad work rather than facilities. Suits people who want to actually get better at Muay Thai rather than sample several martial arts.

Phuket Top Team

Chalong, Phuket / Mid-size camp

MMA-first gym rather than a Muay Thai camp that added MMA. The right pick if mixed martial arts is the actual goal and Muay Thai is one component of it. A poor pick if you want a traditional Thai Muay Thai experience.

Suwit Muay Thai

Chalong, Phuket / Mid-size camp

Long-established Chalong camp with a traditional Muay Thai focus and a track record of putting foreign students into local fights. Suits people who want a clear path toward competing rather than a fitness holiday.
