Phuket for people staying for months

Staying in Phuket for months of Muay Thai

Phuket works for a long stay, but almost nobody should do it the way they did their first two weeks.

Updated 2026-09-01

The short version

Phuket supports a multi-month stay better than most of Thailand, because the infrastructure around the camps is real: long-term rentals, healthcare, gyms and a large resident foreign community. The cost only works once you stop buying camp accommodation.

Past about six weeks the economics change completely. Monthly rentals in Rawai and Chalong exist at a fraction of the nightly camp rate, and once you have a scooter the distance to the gym stops mattering.

The other thing a long stay buys you is the option to switch. Nobody trains at the same camp for six months by design; people move when a trainer leaves, when the room fills with holiday traffic, or when their goals change.

It is also the region where a long stay is least isolating, which matters more than people expect around month two.

Where this goes wrong

Visa length is the constraint that decides how long you can actually stay, and it depends on your nationality and how you enter. Sort that before you sign anything monthly.

Phuket camps we would put in front of people staying for months

Matched on what we have verified, not on who pays us. Anything we have not confirmed about a camp is marked as such on its page.

Sinbi Muay Thai

Rawai, Phuket / Mid-size camp

A long-running Rawai camp that stayed Muay Thai only while neighbours diversified into MMA. Reputation is built on Thai trainer quality and pad work rather than facilities. Suits people who want to actually get better at Muay Thai rather than sample several martial arts.

Rawai Muay Thai

Rawai, Phuket / Mid-size camp

One of the older established camps in the Rawai cluster, with a mixed crowd of holiday trainees and longer-stay fighters. On-site accommodation and a walkable location put it in the practical middle of the Phuket options.

Sumalee Boxing Gym

Thalang, Phuket / Small camp

Smaller camp in the quieter north of Phuket, away from the Rawai and Chalong concentration. Being out of the tourist strip is the point: fewer distractions, smaller groups, more trainer attention. Less convenient if you want nightlife or a big social scene.
