Camp against camp

FA Group Muay Thai Gym or Kiatphontip Gym

Two camps in Bangkok, set against each other on what each one publishes about itself. Nothing below is our opinion of either.

The short version

A single group session is 500 THB at FA Group Muay Thai Gym and 400 THB at Kiatphontip Gym. They line up on 3 of the lines both camps publish.

FA Group Muay Thai Gym

Almost the whole price list is in US dollars, so almost every line above stays blank: this site does not convert a figure into baht to fill a column. The 500 is the baht figure the gym prints itself for a drop in, on both the two hour fighter session and the one hour fitness class. In dollars the fighter programme is 19 a session, 150 for ten, 272 for twenty, 175 a week, 445 a month, 1,100 for three months, 1,800 for six and 2,800 for a year, while the Muaythai Fit and Fun class is 19 a drop in, 140 for ten sessions or for a month unlimited, 344 for three months, 625 for six and 1,125 for twelve. A private is 55 with most of the named coaches and 137 with Petchboonchu. A room on site is 30 a day or 197 a week, and a scooter is 15 a day, 50 a week or 95 a month.

Kiatphontip Gym

Two sessions a day Monday to Saturday, 07:00 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 18:00, with Sunday off. Mornings run, shadow box, work the bags and pads and finish on conditioning, with boxing and sparring on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Afternoons add up to an hour of clinch. The private line stays blank because the camp publishes no private rate. The nightly room line stays blank because a room is only sold inside a Train and Stay package with training and two meals a day: a week is 8,900, two weeks 16,500, three weeks 24,000, a month 31,000 and three months 87,000 in a standard room, and 10,000, 18,000, 26,000, 32,000 and 90,000 in a deluxe room. Training without a room runs 400 a session, 700 for two sessions in one day, 4,000 a week, 7,000 for two weeks, 12,000 a month and 23,000 for two months.

Against the country

Each line runs from the cheapest figure listed camps print for that rate to the dearest, with FA Group Muay Thai Gym marked above the line, Kiatphontip Gym below it and the stretch between them inked. In baht, FA Group Muay Thai Gym first, then Kiatphontip Gym: one group session at 500 and 400, 100 apart inside a run of 550 that 31 of 44 listed camps print. Rates only one of the two publishes are left out, because a line carrying one mark says nothing about two camps.

They quote the same figure on 2 lines: sessions a day and rooms on site.

What we cannot tell you yet

Neither camp has been confirmed on the lines below, so this page does not compare them. They are named rather than left off, because a comparison that only shows the fields it happens to hold is the shape of a page pretending to be complete.

In their own words

What each camp is

FA Group Muay Thai Gym

A Chatuchak gym with a named fighter stable that prices nearly everything in US dollars rather than baht, and grades its privates by which coach takes them. Suits someone booking a long block from abroad who wants the cost settled before landing, more than someone comparing baht rates once already in Thailand.

Kiatphontip Gym

A family camp on the quiet western edge of Bangkok, running since 2008, where visitors train in the same two sessions as the resident Thai fight team and a room is sold inside the stay rather than by the night. Suits someone who wants a small camp and a fixed daily rhythm more than someone who wants to be in the middle of the city.

What people ask about FA Group Muay Thai Gym and Kiatphontip Gym

Every figure below is read off the two records at build time rather than written by hand, so a question neither camp has published anything behind is left out instead of answered softly.
Is FA Group Muay Thai Gym or Kiatphontip Gym cheaper?
Kiatphontip Gym, on the line most trips are booked on. A single group session is 400 baht there against 500 baht at FA Group Muay Thai Gym, a gap of 100 baht. A cheaper month is not a cheaper trip. Food, a room where the camp has none and the flight home all sit outside these figures, and a camp that is 2,000 baht dearer a month is the cheaper of the two the moment it saves you a daily taxi.
What is the difference between FA Group Muay Thai Gym and Kiatphontip Gym?
One of the 3 lines both camps publish comes out different: a single group session. They match on how many sessions a day run and whether there are rooms on site. Kiatphontip Gym publishes a week of unlimited training, a month of unlimited training and whether beginners are taken. FA Group Muay Thai Gym publishes none of those. What separates two camps on the mats is the trainer you get put with, and no camp publishes that. Use the lines above to cut the list down, then ask both.
Is FA Group Muay Thai Gym or Kiatphontip Gym better for a beginner?
Only one of them is placed either way. Kiatphontip Gym reads as a fit for a beginner and FA Group Muay Thai Gym publishes nothing we could read it from, so its line stays blank rather than get a guess. That is a call made at a desk from what each camp publishes about who it trains, not a verdict from the mats. A gym built around a fight team will take a beginner's money and leave them holding pads at the back for a month, so ask both how a first session actually runs before you book either.
Can you stay at FA Group Muay Thai Gym or Kiatphontip Gym?
Both. FA Group Muay Thai Gym and Kiatphontip Gym each say on their own site that you can sleep at the camp. Neither nightly rate is published, so the room line stays blank rather than get estimated off camps elsewhere that do print one. Staying in means the commute stops being a decision you make twice a day at five in the morning, which matters more than the saving on most trips shorter than a month.
How many sessions a day do FA Group Muay Thai Gym and Kiatphontip Gym run?
The same number. FA Group Muay Thai Gym and Kiatphontip Gym both run 2 sessions a day. That is how many are on offer and not how many anybody should plan on taking. A timetable says when the door is open; how many times you walk through it is most of the difference between a training holiday and a camp, and a first week of doubles is how people spend a second week injured.
How far apart are FA Group Muay Thai Gym and Kiatphontip Gym?
About 25 km in a straight line, measured between the two pins rather than along a road, so a motorbike covers more ground than that and traffic decides the rest. Both camps sit in Bangkok. That is a ride rather than a walk, so trying both in one trip means picking a base and paying to cross, or splitting the stay in two.
