Chinnarach Muay Thai or Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness

Two camps in Koh Phangan, set against each other on what each one publishes about itself. Nothing below is our opinion of either.

Chinnarach Muay Thai

The week and month above are the twice a day tiers, which cover the whole published timetable; once a day is 2,000 a week and 8,000 a month. A day pass covering both classes is 600, and ten classes 3,500. The private above is the trainer rate: Master Chin is 2,500 a session or 22,000 for ten, against 800 and 7,000 with a trainer. Rooms behind the gym are priced by the week and the month rather than the night, from 500 a week to sleep in the gym itself, 2,500 for a bamboo hut or a shared aircon room and 3,000 for an ensuite, or 1,500, 8,000 and 10,000 for the same by the month.

Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness

Everything is sold in two columns, once a day and twice a day. The week and month above are the twice a day column, which covers both published sessions; once a day is 2,000 a week and 7,000 a month. The 400 is a single day at once a day, so it buys one session. Longer twice a day tiers are 25,000 for three months, 45,000 for six and 84,000 for a year, against 20,000, 36,000 and 60,000 once a day. Privates are 700 an hour, 3,000 for five and 5,000 for ten. The fitness floor is priced separately, from 200 a visit to 10,000 a year, and a bundle of one month in the gym with ten Muay Thai sessions is 3,500. Muay Thai runs 08:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday.

Against the country

Each line runs from the cheapest figure listed camps print for that rate to the dearest, with Chinnarach Muay Thai marked above the line, Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness below it and the stretch between them inked. In baht, Chinnarach Muay Thai first, then Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness: one group session the same at 400, inside a run of 550 that 31 of 44 listed camps print; a week, unlimited the same at 3,000, inside a run of 3,700 that 21 of 44 listed camps print; a month, unlimited the same at 10,000, inside a run of 14,001 that 26 of 44 listed camps print; one private at 800 and 700, 100 apart inside a run of 900 that 22 of 44 listed camps print. Rates only one of the two publishes are left out, because a line carrying one mark says nothing about two camps.

They quote the same figure on 5 lines: one group session, a week unlimited, a month unlimited, sessions a day and takes beginners.

What we cannot tell you yet

Neither camp has been confirmed on the lines below, so this page does not compare them. They are named rather than left off, because a comparison that only shows the fields it happens to hold is the shape of a page pretending to be complete.

In their own words

What each camp is

Chinnarach Muay Thai

Two two-hour group sessions a day, priced in two columns so one a day costs less than two. Accommodation is on the gym's own plot and sold by the week or the month rather than the night, starting with the option of sleeping in the gym itself, which is as cheap as training in Thailand gets. A private with the head coach costs roughly three times a session with a trainer, which tells you how the place is organised before you arrive.

The full record for Chinnarach Muay Thai

Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness

A Thong Sala gym with a fitness floor attached and the most granular price list on the island, running from a single day to a full year in two columns, once a day and twice. The long tiers are where the price per session collapses, so it suits somebody settling in rather than passing through. Two bungalows are listed with no rate and no stated location, so treat accommodation here as unknown rather than on site.

What people ask about Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness

Every figure below is read off the two records at build time rather than written by hand, so a question neither camp has published anything behind is left out instead of answered softly.
Is Chinnarach Muay Thai or Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness cheaper?
Neither. Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness both print a month of unlimited training at 10,000 baht. They both quote 3 other priced lines, and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness is lower on one and 2 come out level. A cheaper month is not a cheaper trip. Food, a room where the camp has none and the flight home all sit outside these figures, and a camp that is 2,000 baht dearer a month is the cheaper of the two the moment it saves you a daily taxi.
What is the difference between Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness?
One of the 6 lines both camps publish comes out different: a private session. They match on a single group session, a week of unlimited training, a month of unlimited training, how many sessions a day run and whether beginners are taken. Chinnarach Muay Thai publishes whether there are rooms on site and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness does not. What separates two camps on the mats is the trainer you get put with, and no camp publishes that. Use the lines above to cut the list down, then ask both.
Is Chinnarach Muay Thai or Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness better for a beginner?
Both. Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness each read as a room somebody who has never trained can walk into. That is a call made at a desk from what each camp publishes about who it trains, not a verdict from the mats. A gym built around a fight team will take a beginner's money and leave them holding pads at the back for a month, so ask both how a first session actually runs before you book either.
Can you stay at Chinnarach Muay Thai or Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness?
Chinnarach Muay Thai says you can sleep at the camp. Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness publishes nothing either way, so that line stays blank. Neither nightly rate is published, so the room line stays blank rather than get estimated off camps elsewhere that do print one. Staying in means the commute stops being a decision you make twice a day at five in the morning, which matters more than the saving on most trips shorter than a month.
How many sessions a day do Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness run?
The same number. Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness both run 2 sessions a day. That is how many are on offer and not how many anybody should plan on taking. A timetable says when the door is open; how many times you walk through it is most of the difference between a training holiday and a camp, and a first week of doubles is how people spend a second week injured.
How far apart are Chinnarach Muay Thai and Phangan Muay Thai & Fitness?
About 700 m in a straight line, measured between the two pins rather than along a road, so a motorbike covers more ground than that and traffic decides the rest. Both camps sit in Koh Phangan. That is close enough to walk, so a trial session at each one inside a single week costs you nothing but the drop-in rate.
